Like you said, this is a very solid list of themes. My favorite is Shaken and Stirred because it is simple, but at the same time it has the Pinterest layout and it has a free version too. That’s great for starters! Thank you!
There is also http://themify.me/themes/grido
Great job, exactly what I was searching for!
Is it possible to include user-login, -upload, -like, -comment, -gallery, -repin function with plugins and some (favorably) minor customizing or do you need a script like the Joomla one from apptha?
Thanks in advance.
WordPress already provides a registration/login system which is 100% customizable. You can also add upload function if you have some knowledge in programming. If not, I guess you should start experiencing in BuddyPress, a free plugin for WordPress which helps you transform your WP blog into a real social friendly website. The BuddyPress community is quite active so you will be able to find lots of mods and themes here: http://buddypress.org/extend/plugins/. Besides that, Apptha already has few of the features on Pinterest such as most themes here, but if you know a bit of programming you will do well. Also, take a look on How to Create a Pinterest Site
Pinboard from themify would be closer to pinterest.com: http://themify.me/themes/pinboard
This is a great list. I very much appreciate the time and effort put into this list. I’ll give all of these themes (the free ones) a try. thanks!
I kind of like the Gridlock and Helios. I love Pinterest so these themes looks pretty much enticing to me as well those who are trying out WordPress yet for the very first time. Cool collection you got there.
I have tried the apptha Pinterest Joomla extension and it was terrible and buggy – although they have released a new version, I have also tried the pinterestclones (dot) com version – and guess what!? It doesn’t work either – but an update is coming on Saturday apparently.
For now I am working on another clone through these guys 3fusion (.) in/scripts.php it’s a 2leep clone – which is pretty cool… but I wanted a blog on a sub domain to index all my posts from the feed to catalog all the entries… I really like the post by the way and it saved me a lot of scouting around – I am edging towards iPhoto cos it’s free and I might give shakengrid pro a whirl – that looks alright. Thanks again for the post.
Glad you enjoy the post, too bad you don’t like Apptha, I can’t talk about their Joomla extension because I haven’t tested it, but about the subdomain blog and featuring posts on the main domain, you could try WP Subdomains WordPress plugin, and with a bit of customization you can create a pretty nice network.
Nice collection. I think this themes could be powerful using WP MU.
Yes, like I said to Trollmeme, these plugins are great and you can get lots of the Pinterest features using WP Mu along with BuddyPress Plugin. Both are free to use and the community is available for you at any time providing lots of great customizations and support.
That’s really a great compilation. I am thinking to start a pinterest like site myself but haven’t decided the domain name yet.
These themes will surely be useful when I start my new project
Pinterest is new, but the number of clones for this site has grown incredibly fast, so the competition is huge. Personally I would recommend creating a site on a similar concept, but based on a niche. For domain ideas you can try Domain Tools.
This site does have a lot of excellent Pinterest like themes! Wondering which theme loads the best.
If you talk about the loading speed, then you will have to check each of them because even if some of them seem to be heavy and slow to load, they might surprise you how fast they are. The best thing to do this is to check each of them using “Google Page Speed Test“
Great article! It is very very helpful.
Do you know which theme might be best for hosting thousands of photos from hundreds of users, rather than just a personal photo blog?
Thanks kindly,
Chris
But does that work with theme previews/demos? What about on ThemeForest and the like?
Thanks! And thanks for the great list!
Awesome list! I’m going to use Sliding for my ecommerce site. Thanks for sharing this.
I have been looking for this! Thanks for making this awesome list. I do have a question – Since I won’t have a chance until tomorrow to really look through all of these options, does anybody know offhand if any of them have the “Pin it” bookmarklet type function or if it would be terribly complicated to have one built? I’ll look through them tomorrow but thought I’d ask first in case anyone knows.
Thanks!
Wow a great wordress design athorium.
Bethany: There is a pintit plugin for wordpress, just google pinit for wordpress theres a bunch of them.
you can enter it on a post or a page or on a sidebar.
cheers
Sup great post for all of us wordpress designers!
Thanks.
This is a great up-to-date post. I have hundreds of WordPress Themes that I wanted to build a site around to sell them. However, I could never find the time or motivation to really go through them all.
After reading the post here today, I’m now inspired to go pick out the relative nuggets and perhaps be a provider for Pinterest like WP themes…
Thanks for the inspiration!
ultimate collection. thanks for sharing.
Creative Collection! I was also looking for a WordPress Pinterest Theme and the best solution in my opinion is not listed. Watch the Video and you will see a great Theme: http://www.ideecon.com/beste-wordpress-pinterest-theme-2012/2226
Great post, straight into my favorites list!
You missed a great one, which I’m just posting here, and the name is Squaregrid.

This one is the best pinterest theme: http://www.brillthemes.com/wordpress-themes/pinterest-plus/
nice themes.. I like all of them.. thank you..
My favorite free theme by far is ‘Modern’. Great listings here.
Pinboard by Themify made the best WordPress theme if you want to create a website like Pinterest
Just an fyi – if the Apptha word press ‘pinterest’ theme is as poorly coded as their Magento pinterest theme.. beware. An absolute nightmare that we had to give up on and lousy support.
you left off “Stomacci” by themekingdom
Great list, I think you could make a highly visited website using this and WP Mu. Thanks for posting this.
iPhoto is no longer being maintained and seems to crash my site, I had to ftp in and delete the theme manually. What a shame as it seems pretty cool looking. I really wanted to use it.
34 similar themes? Amazing. So, we expect hundreds of Pinterest like sites on the market I guess then.
That surprise you? Same as all the Facebook knock offs, groupon, etc…
I’ m looking for something between hatch and imbalance 2.
for now I’ m using the hatch theme, but I like the imbalance 2 design much more, since this does not crop the pictures at all.

any idea for the *perfect* solution?
just send a message via contact please!
A solid list indeed. Thanks for putting the work in to make this list. I’ll be revisiting and making use of some of these themes. Some are visually striking, which is what I’m looking for. Thanks again
We recently released a free responsive Pinterest style WordPress theme that uses the wookmark jquery plugin called PinStrap. Check it out.
*PINPRESS is scam. They took my money but didn’t give me @ what you said. Please people don’t believe what they say on their web. Bullshit. After you pay through their website you will get not thing. No respond. No download theme. They don’t even give you back your money either. I still have their receipt in my email i can show to you if you want.
